Hourglass

Hourglass

Green Leather

I used to drive on the fast lane
Now on the sidelines I remain
Holding on to the things that keep me sane
To what I know is still true

December came with darkness and a grin
To remind us of the beasts that lie within
This time the snow feels different on my skin
And there is nothing I can do

And so I wandered through
All my life not knowing what to do
Not knowing where to be
So here I’ll stay
Digressing needlessly
I don’t care how things were supposed to be
How things were supposed to be

My head is sore, and I’m tired of counting sheep
I close my eyes but I still can’t fall sleep
These empty promises I know you’ll never keep
Still they’re the reason I’m awake

Days just pass me by
As I watch them all fade away
Up the river I see a light
But the stream goes the other way

Whats the point in all the rush?
When did things get so out of hand?
I just wanna punch a hole in the hourglass
And play with the sand

And so I wandered through
All my life not knowing what to do
Not knowing where to be
So here I’ll stay
Digressing needlessly
I don’t care how things were supposed to be
How things were supposed to be

I’ll just punch a hole in the hourglass
And play with the sand
